Jewelry in India- Cultural Expression

Indian Jewelry and its significance

Necklace 1

Indian Jewelry has its own story. The ornaments of India is a striking expression of the country’s cultural history. People nowadays are more attracted towards the antique design for anything.

The story of jewelry in India begins 5,000 years ago in Indus Valley.
At that time India was the largest exporter of the stone/beads to the world. The jewelry art was famous in South India,
Bengal and Odisha. So we can go through the history and evolution of jewelry anytime.
This article comes up with a question. Do you love antique jewelry as such as I do? I know right! Who doesn’t love it?
It has its own charm, beauty, and most important “story”. I am a big fan of the jewelry design and how these pieces of jewelry look.

Jewelry and I go hand in hand. Most amazingly it’s not just limited to females but also males

Since I was a teenager I’ve been obsessed with my mother’s jewelry box. I used to lurk in her room to experiment on how
that jewelry looks on me. Antique jewelry is an inspiration though, as they have a story and you can evolve it. So, it’s no
surprise I have some favorites!

Maang Tika

Maang (parting of the hair) Tika (forehead jewelry)  is made up of a chain with a hook which is used to hold the tika between hair at one end and a pendant on the other
which remain stable in the center of the woman’s forehead.tika

“Nath” Nose Ring

It is circular (depends on size), smallest is a tiny stud. This ornament is believed to be most seductive of all. Nath is the main accessory for any bride and a bride looks incomplete without Nath. In Hindu culture, the symbol of Nath for a woman is being married.

The circular shape with the sweet tinkling sound of bangles can make anybody crazy about them and that sound means the presence of a female in the house!! These are colorful pieces bangle 21and are worn by Indian females. This beautiful piece of jewelry is my favorite among all.

This piece of jewelry is worn near heart so it is known to control emotions and strengthen the love. Look at this beautiful one!! Isn’t it gorgeous???

PAYAL (Anklet)

This piece have fantastically evolved till date as these were worn in pairs before but now we can wear it single as per the trend. Anklets are important piece of jewelry in Indian marriages. It has different significance in different places. The anklets are also shown in the ancient sculptures of temples i.e Hampi Temple. The giggling sound coming from the payal is so melodious. The ancient designs were heavy will bells but now as we don’t like our jewelry heavy these comes with thin thread with small beads. However I love them in every form!!!!!
